What can I expect on my spa visit?
Your visit to AMAN Spa begins the moment you step through our doors. We invite you to arrive a few minutes before your scheduled appointment to settle in and complete your intake forms, if you haven’t already done so online.
You will be warmly welcomed by our receptionist and asked to relax in our serene waiting area—a quiet sanctuary designed to help you begin unwinding. Here, you may enjoy a selection of complimentary tea or a light snack as you transition into a state of calm. If you need to use the washroom, this is the perfect time to do so, ensuring that every minute of your treatment is dedicated to your care.
At your appointment time, your therapist will come to greet you and escort you to your treatment room. Your treatment time officially begins at this moment of pickup or your scheduled treatment time. Once inside the room, your therapist will describe the service you will be receiving, review any important details noted on your intake form, and take a moment to understand your specific needs and preferences for the session.
Your therapist will then step out, giving you privacy to undress to your comfort level and settle onto the treatment table. After a few moments, they will return and begin your experience, delivering your treatment with intention, skill, and presence. The session concludes precisely at your scheduled end time—for example, a 60-minute treatment will conclude 60 minutes after pickup.
Following your service, your therapist will check in with you, step out once again to allow you to get dressed, and then meet you in the waiting area for any final guidance or after-care recommendations.
To complete your visit, our receptionist will assist you with payment and ensure you leave feeling renewed, supported, and deeply cared for—until your next AMAN Spa escape.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please make sure you arrive before your appointment start time and complete the intake forms before you arrive (or arrive at least 10 minutes early to fill out the forms in person). If you arrive late, we cannot extend the end time of your appointment and your appointment will be cut short.
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. A late cancellation or missed visit leaves a hole in the therapists' day that could have been filled by another patient. As such, we require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hrs notice, or miss their appointment, for any reason **(including illness)**, will be charged the cancellation fee of the full service(s) amount to the credit card on file.
How does my treatment time work?
Your treatment time starts on the time it is scheduled for you. So if you have a 2 pm appointment, your treatment time starts at 2 pm. Your treatment time ends after the period of time it is broken for passes. If you booked a 60 minute treatment for 2 pm, then your treatment time ends at 3 pm.
If you are late, or need to fill out your intake forms in person, or have to use the bathroom, and this takes us past your start time, we can't change the treatment time. Your treatment will still end at the time originally scheduled.
Your treatment time includes your intake and assessment, as well as your undressing time. This can take anywhere between 5-10 minutes. This means that for a 60 minute session, 55-50 minutes will be hands on.
After your treatment time ends, you can get dressed and ready for what your day holds next for you. Your therapists will meet you in the waiting area, and then get back to preparing the room for the next guest.
Do you bill Insurance?
We do not direct bill any insurance provider, but we will provide you with an insurance receipt that allows you to claim back an amount in line with your coverage terms. Please ensure you check eligibility requirements with your provider as all are different.
To be eligible for insurance receipts:
(1) the treatment has to be a massage (including Face Pilates™) or lymphatic drainage by an RMT; or
(2)the treatment has to be cupping or acupuncture by our naturopathic doctor.
NO facials or medical aesthetic treatments qualify for insurance receipts.
Can I bring my child to the Spa?
To preserve the serene, restorative atmosphere of our spa, we are an adult-focused environment and are unable to accommodate children under the age of 14. At this time, we do not have childcare facilities or the staff required to supervise minors while parents receive treatments.
Should you arrive with a child under the age of 14, your service will be denied and the full cancelation fee applies.
Guests between the ages of 14 and 18 are welcome, provided they are booked for a treatment, are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (or have written guardian permission sent via email in advance), and are able to remain independently supervised throughout their visit.
Unaccompanied guests under the age of 18 cannot be left unattended at the Spa.
I'm under the age of 18, can I receive a treatment?
Yes. Guests aged 14 and 17 (under 18 years of age) are welcome, provided they are booked for a treatment, are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (or have written guardian permission sent via email in advance), and are able to remain independently supervised throughout their visit.
Guest aged 14-15 must have parent/guarding consent and must be accompanied by an adult.
Guests aged 16-17 may receive a treatment if the therapist determines that they are able to provide informed consent and have a payment method in their name or come with a gift card.
Were the therapist determines that the person is not able to provide informed consent, the treatment will not be provided but our usual cancelation policy applies and the full treatment cost will be charged onto the credit card on file.
To avoid the risk of treatment denial, and associated cancellation fees, please provide advance parent or guardian consent and authorization.
I have red marks, is this normal?
Some redness after treatment is completely normal, and in fact it is a sign the treatment is doing what it is designed to do. Broken capillaries, by contrast, are not an expected outcome of facial lymphatic drainage or face pilates, and we want to hear from you if they appear.
Why redness happens. When soft tissue is worked, whether through massage, facial sculpting movements, or lymphatic drainage strokes, the mechanical stimulation causes the small blood vessels near the surface of the skin to dilate and blood flow to the area to increase. This response, called erythema, is your circulatory system responding to touch: more oxygenated blood is delivered to the tissue, and metabolic by-products are carried away more efficiently. The skin may look flushed or pink, and may feel warm, for anywhere from a few minutes to a couple of hours after your session. On the face, where the skin is thinner and the vessels sit closer to the surface, this flush can be more visible than it would be on the back or limbs. It fades on its own and needs no treatment.
Why facial lymphatic drainage in particular should leave very little mark. Lymphatic drainage uses deliberately light, rhythmic pressure, because the lymphatic vessels sit just beneath the skin and respond to gentle stretch rather than deep force. A properly performed lymphatic drainage session may produce mild, short-lived pinkness, but it should not leave lasting red marks, and it should never be painful. Face pilates and facial sculpting techniques use somewhat firmer, more active movement, so a slightly stronger flush is normal there, but the same principle applies: temporary pinkness, not lasting marks.
What about broken capillaries? "Broken capillaries" (the medical term is telangiectasia) are tiny dilated vessels that remain visible as fine red or purple threads after the general flush has faded. These are usually not created by a single treatment; more often they already exist, particularly in people with rosacea, fair or mature skin, significant sun exposure, or a family tendency toward them, and become more noticeable when circulation to the area increases. Genuinely new pinpoint marks or bruising after a facial treatment would suggest that your capillaries are more fragile than average. Capillary fragility can be increased by blood-thinning medications (including daily aspirin), some supplements, topical retinoids, recent exfoliating or laser treatments, and certain medical conditions, which is why we ask about these on your health history.
What to tell us before and during treatment. Your treatments at Aman Spa are performed by Registered Massage Therapists, and part of every session is a conversation about your health history and your comfort. Please let your RMT know if you have rosacea, sensitive or reactive skin, are using retinoids or acids, take blood thinners, or have had recent cosmetic procedures. Your therapist will adjust pressure and technique accordingly, and you are always welcome to ask for lighter pressure at any point during the session; treatment can be modified or stopped at any time at your request.
When to follow up. Contact us, or check in with your physician, if redness lasts more than a day or two, if you develop bruising, swelling, hives, or itching, if the skin feels hot or the redness spreads, or if new visible vessels persist after the flush has faded. These outcomes are uncommon, and if they occur we want to know so your therapist can review what was done and adapt your next session.
Are your massages by RMTs?
We have both RMTs and non-RMT's on staff. All RMT's are identified by "RMT" in their name. Please select your practitioner carefully if you wish to have an RMT.
Do you do couples massages?
We provide couples treatments, both massages and facials, at the same time but in separate rooms. This allows each person to select the best treatment for them, especially when needs and preferences differ.
We do not have couple's packages, but you can each choose one of our existing packages to enjoy at the same time.
Is there parking close by?
There is limited on street parking right by AMAN Spa. However there is street packing along Church Street and Wellington Street, and there are parking garages in the neighbourhood within walking distance.
We are located in a lively part of downtown, so parking can be challenging; please plan ahead as late arrivals mean a shorter treatment.
Do you have amenities?
Aman Spa is a boutique luxury spa in the hear of down town Toronto. Other than our serene waiting area, where we have snacks and tea for you while you wait to be picked up by your therapists, we don't offer any other amenities due to space constraints and the limitations of being in a beautiful heritage building.
Can I book a treatment for someone else?
You can book an appointment for another person if you have relationship permissions enabled in your own profile though our online booking system. You can choose to book multiple appointments at the same time under your account and then assign the treatment to another person either before or on the day of the appointment by emailing or calling us.
You can also book for your child or have them create an account on our booking system to reserve their own treatments. Anyone aged 14-15 must have parent/guardian consent for the treatment and be accompanied by an adult. Anyone between 16-17 can book their own appointment subject our assessment of their informed consent and don't necessarily need parent/guardian consent.
NOTE that you are responsible for the cancellation fee if your other person cannot show up or wishes to cancel or change their appointment within the 24 hour cancelation period.
NOTE that where the therapists determines that a person between the ages of 16-17 cannot provide informed consent, the treatment will be cancelled and the full cancellation fee applies.
Can you get a massage while pregnant?
To get a full body massage while pregnant you have to be past your first trimester.
You can get our "Weight Off Your Feet", "Zen Headspace", and "Hand-in-Knead", 30-minute massages while in your first trimester.
Any other treatments booked within your first trimester will be cancelled upom your arrival and the cancellation fee will apply.
What is your return policy?
All sales of products and services, including gift cards, are final. No returns or exchanges are possible.
Do you offer couples treatments?
We do offer couples treatments, delivered at the same time but in different rooms. This allows each person to select the treatment that is idea for them. We do not have a 'couple's room' where two persons are able to get a treatment and we do not offer a discount for couples treatments.
